How to Improve your Work-Life Balance
Even though we are incredibly passionate about the Cloud & IT Infrastructure space, it’s important for all of us to think about the balance between work and life outside the office.
Finding ways to through new activities and self-care into your daily mix will improve both the quality of your work and your mental health and life satisfaction.
Our Head of Delivery Jimmy Hearne tells us why mental health is so important, and how you can improve your work-life balance:
“Mental health is such an important topic for everyone.
Mental health is directly linked to your physical health and vice-versa, so improving one improves the other.
As Head of Delivery at InfraView I’ve found some great ways to improve the quality of life in the office for our employees.
One of these methods is a team walk at lunch.
Exercise in general is a great tool in raising your mood, so we get out of the office for 30 minutes for a walk as a team.
Most importantly, conversations about work are banned!
This gives us a chance to talk about what’s going on out of the office, our passions, our interests and to switch perspective away from work tasks.
We also run a 15 minute golf putting competition daily where we set up a hole and putt a ball around the office. This gives everyone a chance to breath, refresh themselves and to have fun as a team.
But what about work tasks?
I’m a huge advocate for leaving work at work.
This can be difficult being in sales or recruitment. Often we’ll find ourselves checking our phones at the weekend, checking emails or making calls.
Away from work you should switch off, enjoy time with family and friends and find different things your brain to do instead of work tasks.
Thinking about the people around you is also important not just for them but for you too.
Your behaviour in and out of the office affect everyone. For example it may be that not everyone wants to be spoken to in the way that you believe is acceptable. We all have different ways of dealing with events and our emotions.
At the end of the day, you should treat others how you want to be treated.
After the last couple of years the importance of supporting each other cannot be understated.”
