Why IT Solutions Providers Need A Structured Onboarding Process

“We’ve had a record Q1 here at InfraView and the IT Solutions and Services Provider space is a buoyant and busy market with lots of hiring across the board.
With all of this successful hiring happening, there’s obviously lots of new starters.
So it’s really important to have a structured onboarding process.
It’s all well and good having a great hiring process but if your onboarding process is lacking it will undo all of your hard work.
So what does a good onboarding process do for you?
It sets the tone and level of quality both parties can come to expect. That’s both from you as the employer and the candidate themselves. This introduces to both the business and the new starter to the things that need to be lived up to.
A better onboarding process will minimise the risk of candidate drop-out and also increase the chances of a candidate referring others to you.
All too often we have great candidates excited by a role and an opportunity, but the process following the acceptance of the verbal offer is disastrous.
There are some key areas to look at when structuring your onboarding process:
- Speed at which an offer letter is sent in writing after the verbal offer
- Communication between offer and start date
- Ensure their kit is ordered and delivered prior to their start date
- Communication around their start day
- Their first day and your expectations of themselves
All of this is vitally important to set the tone and level a candidate can come to expect from you and also help to shape the levels a candidate will need to be at themselves.
